Painted Cabinetry in a Timber Frame Home

December 29, 2013 Leave a comment

A beautiful kitchen in a timber frame home is always a winner in my book.  In a conventionally framed home, natural wood cabinetry would be my choice, in almost every situation.  But, what about a timber frame home?  Wood timbers, probably wood flooring, the cabinetry in another wood choice might be too much.  Painted cabinetry wins out for contrast alone.

What do you think?  The white cabinets are very pretty and very safe.  Would you be more daring?

Count me in on all of this.  Hand hewn timbers, gorgeous stone fireplace and hearth, love it.  Let’s take a look at the exterior, just for fun!

Native white pine timbers were chosen for the interior with douglas fir timbers for the exterior area.

Working with  Bismark Construction and Huestis Tucker Architects, LLC was a wonderful experience, we look forward to future opportunities.

2012 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2012 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

4,329 films were submitted to the 2012 Cannes Film Festival. This blog had 38,000 views in 2012. If each view were a film, this blog would power 9 Film Festivals

Competitive Bidding

Competitive Bidding / Bid As Drawn

This can be a tough one, if you have a concern based on design aesthetic or worse…engineering.  What’s the best way to approach this?

Let’s see….

Modified Hammer Beam Design

1.  Bid as drawn with so many comments and notes in the proposal that you think you are covered.

2.  Bid as an alternate, hope they appreciate your attention to detail and concern.

3. Bid it both ways and hope for the best.

What do you think?  In various construction methods, this similar situation must come up.  We would like to hear your thoughts!

Timber frame fabrication almost complete for the Nemacolin Woodlands NEW Ski Lodge (very exciting project)!

Time to get organized…everybody MOVE your cars, please.

Uhmmm, Tom? Where the heck is Tom?

Ok, here we go.

This project has quite a lot of steel joinery, need to check it before we get to the jobsite, just to be sure we have all that we need.

Interesting steel column cap shown here.  All of the steel was designed by us and custom created for us by Vermont Steelcraft.

Glulams from Calvert Company via Northwest Specialty Timbers.

If you have Adobe Reader, and would like to check out our design, click below.  Peeled pole columns, glulam branches and lots of STEEL!
